Office of Student Activities changed to Office of Student Engagement and Leadership

The former Office of Student Activities transitioned into the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, aiming to better communicate their work in both event planning and cultivating student initiative. These changes coincide with broader staffing changes, including Rachel Kremer assuming the role of Director of Student Engagement and Leadership. For the coming semester, the Office hopes to promote student leadership through greater support, such as through training sessions, more materials, and a possible leadership retreat.

New Safety App

In an email to students on Thursday, Aug. 31, the Amherst College Police Department (ACPD) announced the Amherst College Safety app. The app’s features include the “Panic Button,” which allows students to instantly send their name and location to ACPD. Students may also activate “Friend Walk,” which allows students “a friend or colleague to follow your location on a map as you walk.” The “Social Escape” feature allows students to schedule a call to their phone, “providing you with a convenient excuse to leave an uncomfortable or dangerous situation,” according to the email. The safety app is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
