Men's Golf: Blaisdell and Sharaf lead Jeffs to tourney win

“Our tournament at Williams was great. All the guys played really well,” said Steve Collins ’03. Mike Blaisdell ’02 tied his Amherst career best score with a combined score of 74, earning him a tie for second place.

Meanwhile, teammate Justin Sharaf ’05 improved his best Amherst score by two strokes and tied for fourth overall with a combined 75.

Both individuals made the All-Tournament Team which is comprised of the top five individuals in the tournament.

“I am especially proud of our freshmen, Mike [Valentine ’05] and Justin,” said Collins. “They both shot their best collegiate rounds. After a bit of a frustrating year, it’s nice to finally win one.”

In addition to the impressive accomplishments of Blaisdell and Sharaf, other excellent performances were turned in by junior Jude Volek and Valentine, who each shot a 78. Volek shot an outstanding 37 on the back nine and the two teammates tied for 15th place overall.

Due to winter weather conditions, Monday’s tournament, the Palamountain Invitational, to be hosted at Skidmore College was cancelled.

The men’s golf team will return to the fairways next weekend at Taconic Golf Club again to play in the District I championship. The meet will include all of the strongest competition in the northeast.

The team is also looking forward to Little IIIs on May 1, where they will go up against rivals schools Williams and Wesleyan University.
