With Honors: Andrew Schiel '06E and Krissy Morin '06

Basketball co-captain Schiel was named Tournament MVP at the Fourth-Annual Ken Wright ’52 Memorial Invitation on Saturday. Schiel led with 13 points to crush Medgar Evers College, 107-55, in the first round of the tournament. In the championship game on Saturday, the outstanding forward again led the Jeffs with 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals while playing just 18 minutes. Schiel’s effort during the first two games has helped Amherst jump to a 2-0 start. D3hoops.com named Schiel to its Second-Team Preseason All-American squad.

Co-captain Morin tied a single-game school record with 10 assists as the women’s basketball team defeated Pioneer Valley rival Mt. Holyoke College 67-51 on Tuesday. Five of Morin’s dimes came in the first 10 minutes of the game when the Jeffs steamrolled the visitors with a 22-4 start. The last time one player handed out 10 assists in a game was on Dec. 9, 2000. Morin also tacked on 10 points in the contest to secure her first career double-double. The Jeffs’ non-conference win improved their record to 2-1.
