With Honors: Amy Armstrong '07 and Ed Sylvester '04

Amy Armstrong

In the NESCAC Tournament final, Armstrong scored the first goal of her Amherst soccer career in the Jeffs’ decisive 6-0 victory over Bates College this past Sunday. The first-year’s goal, the sixth of the game, came off a pass from tri-captain Kay Bradley ’04. Armstrong, who played high school soccer at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., also earned her first career assist in the final on a pass to Lee-Jay Henry ’05, who netted the fourth goal of the game at the end of the first half. Amherst now advances to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Ed Sylvester ’04

Ed Sylvester ’04

Inside linebacker Sylvester had a team-high 15 tackles in Saturday’s season-ending loss to Williams College. The performance ended an excellent senior season for Sylvester, who led the team in tackles with a total of 70, tied for fifth in total tackles in the NESCAC. Twenty-five of his takedowns were solo, while 45 came with the help of teammates. He averaged 8.8 tackles per game. Despite Sylvester’s stellar play in Williamstown, Amherst fell by the slim margin of 14-10 to rival Williams.
