With Honors: Piper Crowell '07 and Rob Walsh '05

Crowell nearly carried the women’s soccer team all by herself last week, allowing just one goal in 245 minutes to take home NESCAC Player of the Week honors. The sophomore goalkeeper grabbed 20 saves and tallied two shutouts as Amherst went 1-1-1 for the week. Crowell came up big against Bates College on Sunday, making 10 saves in a 0-0 double-overtime tie to salvage a poor offensive effort by the Jeffs. She also made six tremendous saves against second-ranked Wheaton in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday.

Rob Walsh ’05

Defensive back Walsh tied a school record on Saturday against Bowdoin College by compiling an astounding four interceptions. Walsh was named Defensive Player of the Week by the NESCAC and for all of Div. III by Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for his stellar play. Walsh’s most important interception came in the second overtime and gave Amherst the chance to score the game-winning touchdown. He leads the NESCAC with five interceptions on the season and is a mere two interceptions short of the College’s single season record of seven.
