With Honors: Sara Heller '09 and Katherine Skrivan '06
Senior tri-captain Skrivan sent the Jeffs home happy with a game-winning score on Saturday against the Trinity College Bantams in both teams’ season opener. Neither side had been able to find the back of the cage all day, but with 3:18 left in regulation, Skrivan finally lit up the scoreboard, hammering home a feed from sophomore midfielder Samantha Miller to give the Jeffs the 1-0 victory. Skrivan had a good bit of help, notably from an outstanding defensive effort that held the Bantams to just five shots. Last night, Skrivan scored once in a 5-1 drubbing of Smith College.
 Sara Heller ’09
First-year setter Heller earned all-tournament honors at the season-opening WNEC Invitational as the Firedogs went 3-1 and finished second. In four matches, Heller amassed an amazing total of 127 assists while also chipping in 15 kills and 11 aces. Heller helped Amherst pound its way into the tournament final, as the team won nine straight games in defeating Westfield State College, Plymouth State and Framingham State Universities. The Firedogs faced a rematch against a rejuvenated Plymouth State in the finals, and despite a heroic 47-assist effort from Heller, the team fell just short, losing in four games.
