Democracy Day Events Spark Student Engagement
To celebrate Constitution Day, the college sponsored a series of civic-engagement events, labeled “Democracy Day.” Events included the Civic Engagement Fair, an open dialogue hosted by Braver Angels, and a CHI Salon panel discussing democracy through a liberal arts lens.
Alum Offers Insight on Supreme Court Appeasements
Stephen Vladeck ’01 returned to his alma mater to discuss fears surrounding the erosion of the balance of power sparked by recent Supreme Court decisions under Trump. Vladeck attempted to appease student concerns, citing “guarded optimism” and trust in democratic safeguards.
AAS Candidate Statements for the Class of 2029 and Transfer Students
Class of 2029 candidates and Transfer Student candidates for the Association of Amherst Students’ senate elections on Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27, have submitted their statements. Speech Night will be held on Wednesday, September 24, at 8 p.m. in Johnson Chapel.
