Mammoth Moments in Miniature: March 26 to April 2

Mammoth Moments in Miniature provides quick updates on campus happenings. This week’s edition features Spring Concert Opener auditions, a talk by Associate Professor of Law at Columbia University Mala Chatterjee, and a CAB event featuring a hypnotist.

Spring Concert Student Opener Auditions Open

Between April 3 and April 10, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will be accepting submissions for a student act to perform the opening act at this year’s Spring Concert on Saturday, April 26. The opportunity is open to both solo acts and bands, and the pay for the 25-minute opening set will be a total of $350, regardless of group size. In order to apply, students must submit to the Google form a short video (one minute) of their performance, include a brief description of their act, and share what instruments they will need for their performance. After submissions are collected a Google form will be sent out to the student body to vote for their favorite performance.

A Functionalist Theory of Legal Persons

Associate Professor of Law at Columbia University Mala Chatterjee will deliver a talk on April 3 arguing that legal persons are defined on the basis of functional instead of natural properties, and that current understanding of legal persons must be expanded. Chatterjee’s writing focuses on legal institutions’ impacts on individuals’ rights to information and expression, with works featured by the Boston Review and the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Card Against Hypnosis with CAB!

This Friday, April 4, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will be hosting “Card Against Hypnosis” with nationally touring comedy hypnotist David Hall. The show promises to “seamlessly blend hypnosis with improvisational and sketch comedy, ensuring every performance is entirely unique.” The audience will have the chance to vote live about what skits they would like to see performed by hypnotized volunteers.
