Mammoth Moments in Miniature: Oct. 11 to Oct. 17
Mammoth Moments in Miniature provides quick updates on campus happenings. This week's edition features an energy reduction competition, Family Weekend, and new changes to Safe Ride.
Kill-a-Watt Week
This week, all residence halls on the first-year quad will compete to reduce their energy use as much as possible. The Office of Sustainability will fund a pizza party for the residence hall that reduces their energy consumption the most compared to their baseline.
Family Weekend
Family Weekend will take place from Oct. 20 to Oct. 22. Families will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, including attending classes, touring the museums Mead and Beneski, and cheering on the Amherst football team against Tufts. They will have the opportunity to attend a restorative impact circle called “Off to College Already?!”
Changes to Safe Ride
The Amherst College Police Department (ACPD) has made changes to Safe Ride beginning this semester. This service has previously meant that those who call will receive a car service to their destination, ACPD has now implemented a “Safe Walk” component. With Safe Walk, instead of being driven to their residence, students will be walked back by a CSO.
Black Studies: Then and Now
The college will host a conversation between UMass Professor of African American studies A Yęmisi Jimoh and Amherst Professor of Black studies Jallicia Jolly on Oct. 19 at Cooper House at 5:00 p.m. They will discuss the history of Black studies in academia, the United States, and at Amherst College.
