This Week in Amherst History
In a desperate attempt to save TAP, students created an organization called Project Facelift that sought to dissolve the demes and create a new social structure for funding student organizations. A forerunner of the present day SoCo, Project Facelift planned to create a central fundraising committee to address the issue. Paul Siegel ’91 conveyed the weight of the situation in saying, “Unless Amherst students begin to understand that the time has come for them to be privately responsible for the funding of TAP, it very well could become a thing of the past.”
Despite the crisis surrounding Project Facelift, TAP did indeed survive as present day revelers can attest.
