With Honors: Lee-Jay Henry '05 and Ralina Shaw '08E
Senior co-captain Henry had an outstanding day at the Bantam Invitational Outdoor Track Meet on Saturday. Henry was leaps and bounds ahead of all other competitors in the long jump, springing 16’10”-two more feet than the second place finisher. With a mark of 36’05.75″, Henry hopped into second place in the triple jump. It only took Henry 15.98 seconds to complete the 100-meter hurdle event as she raced to another second-place finish. Henry put a stamp on the meet by leading off Amherst’s ‘A’ team in the 4×400-meter relay. Her blazing 63.5-second split propelled the Jeffs to finish in 4:11.90, just .34 seconds out of first place.
 Ralina Shaw ’08E
Shaw, a rookie, has started at second base in all 18 games for a very good reason. Her .327 batting average is second on the team, while she leads the squad in runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs. Shaw was on top of her game on Sunday as the Jeffs swept a doubleheader against Hamilton College. She had four hits on the day, including a 3-3 effort in the first game. Shaw also knocked in four runs and scored twice. One at-bat stood out in particular, however. With two outs in the fifth inning of the first contest, Shaw blasted a two-run walk-off home run. The bomb gave Amherst an 8-0 advantage and ended the game due to the mercy rule.
