Field Hockey Suffers Overtime Loss to Tufts, But Beats Conn. College

After 71 minutes of back and forth play, the Amherst field hockey team suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to Tufts on Saturday afternoon. Neither side showed signs of giving up at any point in the bout, constantly attacking each other for the duration of the contest. Though the Mammoths never trailed in regulation, the Jumbos ended up scoring the all-important overtime goal to claim a 3-2 win. Field Hockey Records Victories Over Endicott, Williams and MIT

After a heart-breaking loss to Middlebury the previous Saturday, the field hockey team found a spark in non-conference play last Thursday night in a contest against the Endicott College Gulls. Building off a strong last 20 minutes in the game against the Panthers, Amherst wasted no time in finding the back of the net. Natalie Hobbs ’22 robbed a Gulls defender of the ball, barreled towards the net, and fired a shot past the Endicott goaltender to give Amherst a 1-0 lead just 9:48 into the game.

Field Hockey Falls to Top-Ranked Middlebury in Narrow Loss

The Mammoths fell to 1-2 on the season after a heartbreaking 5-4 loss on the road to the Middlebury Panthers at Kohn Field on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers got off to a quick start when midfielder Emma Johns scored twice in the first eight minutes of play. Johns’ first tally, unassisted, came six minutes into the first half when she snuck a shot past Amherst netminder Katie Savage ’19.
