Mammoth Moments in Miniature provides quick updates on campus happenings. This week’s edition includes The World According to Sound at Amherst College immersive experience, the Let’s Talk S’more About STEM event, and the Joseph Earl Thomas: A Reading and Conversation talk.

The World According to Sound at Amherst College
On Thursday, “The World According to Sound at Amherst College”, an immersive sonic experience about the spirit of academic inquiry, will take place in the Octagon from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Surrounded by an octophonic ring of powerful loudspeakers, students are going to sit in the dark for 70 minutes, wear an eye mask, and be taken on a sonic trip.

Let's Talk S'more About STEM
On Thursday, the Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning will host a conversation session for students interested in STEM at the Keefe Firepit outside the Keefe Campus Center, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. S’mores will be provided. Students are encouraged to come with questions.

Joseph Earl Thomas: A Reading and Conversation
On Thursday, Joseph Earl Thomas will join the Spring 2026 Creative Writing Series at the CHI Think Tank from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Joseph Earl Thomas is the author of "Sink", a memoir, finalist for the William Saroyan International Writing Prize; the novel, "God Bless You, Otis Spunkmeyer," winner of the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize; and the forthcoming story collection, "Leviathan Beach" (Penguin Random House, 2027). Refreshments will be provided.
