Work on the new student center and the geothermal heating system overtook campus this summer and will continue through the fall. The projects are on-schedule despite weather challenges.
Climate Action Plan
The Student explored the function and significance of the college’s new heating and cooling system, which will be largely powered by geothermal energy. The switch marks a major step forward in the plan to decarbonize the campus by 2030.
On March 13, construction began on the college’s project to transition all buildings to carbon-free heating and cooling systems. The construction represents the next stage of the college’s sweeping Climate Action Plan (CAP), which commits Amherst to full decarbonization by 2030.
