Mammoth Moments in Miniature provides quick updates on campus happenings. This week’s edition includes an opening reception at Mead Art Museum, an author talk by Jhumpa Lahiri, the Amherst AI Summit, and the Well-Being Fair.
New Exhibition at Mead
The Mead Art Museum invites students, faculty, staff, and town residents to an opening reception of their newest exhibition — Remittance. The reception will take place at the museum on Friday, 5-7 p.m. Curated by Trisha Lagaso Goldberg, this traveling exhibition features artwork that explores the migration of workers, the causes that led to their relocation, and the enduring ties to their home communities. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.
Annual Rhonda Cobham Sander Lecture: Jhumpa Lahiri
On Friday, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and translator Jhumpa Lahiri will give an author talk as a part of the Annual Rhonda Cobham Sander Lecture. Lahiri’s works include Interpreter of Maladies, The Namesake, Unaccustomed Earth, The Lowland, and Roman Stories. Seniors Camila Massaki Gomes and Rina Huang will co-host the event.
Amherst AI Summit 2026
Amherst AI Summit, a one-day, student-led gathering will take place on Saturday, with programming beginning at 9 a.m. The event aims to foster discussion around artificial intelligence and its role in liberal arts education among faculty, staff, and students. The Summit was organized by Student Engagement and Leadership, the President’s Office, the Loeb Center, AILA, academic departments, and administrative and operational teams.
The Well-Being Fair
The 11th annual Well-Being Fair will be held on Friday 12-2 p.m. at the Main Quad. Attendees will get to pet animals, make flower bouquets, do arts and crafts, and receive free feminine care products.
