Coffey’s success can be in part attributed to his work ethic. A member of the men’s soccer team, Coffey has twice overcome career ending injuries. Sophomore year Coffey had the opportunity to start at stopper for the injured Ryan Goodband ’02 and despite a banged up knee, Coffey jumped at the opportunity. The fourth-seeded Amherst field hockey team had their work cut out for them this past weekend as they faced first-ranked Middlebury College in the NESCAC Tournament semifinals. Amy Armstrong In the NESCAC Tournament final, Armstrong scored the first goal of her Amherst soccer career in the Jeffs’ decisive 6-0 victory over Bates College this past Sunday. The Jeffs have played nearly flawless field hockey this season posting a record of 8-2 thus far, and have dropped only one game to NESCAC competition. Amherst’s first loss of the season came at the sticks of local rival Mt. Holyoke, which entered the game with a record of 6-2. The Jeffs lost by a score of 3-1.
