Back-to-back Wins Keep Women’s Basketball Undefeated After an away win against New Jersey City University on Sunday, Dec. 4, the Mammoths faced NESCAC rival Wesleyan the next night. They came out on top against the Cardinals, stopping a late rally to stay undefeated as they head into their final game of the semester.
Men’s Basketball Wins One, Loses Two, Falling to 3-5 The men’s basketball team lost an away game against Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday, Dec. 1, and blew a 15-point halftime lead at home against Springfield College on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Now eight games into the season, the Mammoths are 3-5.
Men’s Hockey Wins Both Games, Giving Coach His 500th Win Amherst men’s hockey earned two wins this weekend, rallying to complete a late comeback to take down Wesleyan 3-2 in overtime, then defeating No. 11 Trinity by the same score. The team’s second win of the weekend was head coach Jack Arena’s ’83 500th career win.
Women’s Hockey Upsets No. 3 Middlebury — Twice The No. 11-ranked women’s hockey team traveled to Middlebury for their second NESCAC series of the season this past weekend. The Mammoths returned from Vermont with two wins, having handed the No. 3 Panthers their first two losses of the 2022-23 season by identical 4-2 scorelines.
Squash Teams Beat Hamilton, Fall to Trinity The Amherst squash teams took on NESCAC competition for the first time this past week. Both the men’s and women’s team handily defeated Hamilton on Saturday, Dec. 3, but were beaten by national powerhouse Trinity on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
